Crazy for Quilting owner, Mindi Johnson, began quilting in 1997, when her mom had her own store. Mindi's mom closed her shop in 2002 and despite several other shops in the Deary area, Mindi hadn't found another store she really loved. The warm, friendly atmosphere and the eclectic style she longed for in a quilt store were missing. So she decided to open her own store, with a goal to provide a "fun" place to shop, where every skill level of quilter felt welcome and where everyone would love to shop. Thus, in April of 2007, "The Crazy Quilter" was born.
The shop quickly outgrew the tiny rental space where it began and after just a few months, Mindi moved just up the highway to the former Deary Laundromat building. The following year, the Deary Community Church became available and Mindi jumped at the chance to occupy a quaint piece of history with a roomy interior.
In 2012, the shop name was changed to "Crazy for Quilting." The new name reflects the addition of many people that make the shop successful, including Mindi's husband, parents, grandparents, sister, friends and even Mindi's three young children, all helping out on a regular basis to make things happen.
Beginning September 2012, Crazy For Quilting will be movign to the Potlatch Shopping Center, in Potlatch, ID. With a spacious, open lay out, Crazy For Quilting is excited about the potential of the new location! The new store will have more merchandise, increased classes with a classroom integrated right into the shop floor, plenty of room to relax and enjoy coffee while browsing patterns and books, and easy accessibility for more people!
